Why you should love and hate the Portland Justice Center

And it’s in a state of disrepair.

We wanted to know why it’s been there for so long.

We spoke with two of its residents, one who was there when it was built and one who has spent most of his life in the center.

In an exclusive interview, we talk to one of its founding members about the building’s troubled history and what the center could look like in a better light.

Reporter: Portland’s Justice Center, which opened in 1968, is a place where people can go for justice.

It’s the oldest legal center in the country.

It opened in the same year the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the death penalty.

We were the first center in Portland to operate in a courtroom. Reporter
